Estate Coffee is the product of one farm, unmixed with crops from other farms, and processed through to roast under the control of the estate farm. This produces a set of unique coffees, each with their own label, comparable to the different wines from the individual estates in the Napa Region of California, for example, as opposed to a generic wine from mixed grapes.

The Kona Coffee Council runs a Kona Coffee Estate Farm Program, the aims of which are to provide estate farmers and potential buyers with a set of standards and criteria for marketing estate coffee.

1. Must be a member of the Kona Coffee Council.
2. The coffee grown must be from one farm.
3. The farmer must own or lease the land on which the coffee grows.
4. The farm must be well tended under normal agricultural standards.
5. The harvested coffee must be kept separate from the crops of other farms and under control of the farmer with a paper trail as the control mechanism.
6. The coffee is of consistently 100% Kona quality and would meet the State of Hawai'i green grading standards as adopted under Chapter 147, Hawai'i Revised Statutes standards (ie: only prime or better).
7. The coffee workers are treated with respect.
